Seven Samurai Remake

Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai is going to be remade with George Clooney and Zhang Ziyi.

First off, wasn’t The Magnificent Seven a good enough remake of Seven Samurai? Both are classics and both films still hold up. Remaking Seven Samurai is like remaking The Godfather. You just don’t. And what the heck is George Clooney doing here?

  1. Maybe he’s gonna do what he did with Ocean’s Eleven. We can look forward to Eight Samurai, Nine Samurai, etc.

Tina Fey on SNL had a great comment about “stars” doing remakes:

“It is rumored that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez want to star in a remake of Casablanca. This will be the perfect film for people who liked the original but wished it was terrible.”

Followed by one of the longest applause breaks I can remember.

  2. I almost have no words for this. Absolutely unbelievable. I guess the ol’ “is nothing sacred?” comes to mind…

  3. Well, Hollywood need their WHITE hero on every film. How pathetic.

  4. This isn’t a WHITE thing. It’s a money thing.
I can’t believe they’re re-making this film…no one could do it like Kurosawa.
