A few months ago I linked this picture and I wrote how I hope it was from a movie. Well, it turns out it’s from the movie The Science of Sleep. Imagine my surprise when I was watching the trailer and the giant kung fu hands fight scene came on! The movie actually looks really good and not just because of the giant kung fu hands. It’s a film by Michel Gondry, the writer/director who brought us Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. You’ll be able to tell it’s a Gondry film after about 10 seconds. Now what are you waiting for? Here’s the new Spider-Man 3 poster. Say bye bye to the red suit and hello to the new black “suit”. If you haven’t seen the trailer, check it out, it’s amazing.

Update: A reader has told me that he saw the poster at a theatre and that the poster changes color, from red to black, as you look at it from different angles. (Thanks Josh)

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 made $132 million this weekend, making it the all-time best opening. Who would have guessed?

“Dead Man’s Chest” also did nearly three times the business of its predecessor, “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” which took in $46.6 million over opening weekend in 2003.

The sequel surpassed that total in its first day alone, taking in $55.5 million Friday to beat the previous single-day record of $50 million, set last year by “Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.” With $44.7 million on Saturday, “Dead Man’s Chest” also became the first movie to top $100 million in just two days. I saw the movie and I loved it. Obviously it wasn’t as good as the first one, but it’s still more Captain Jack and Pirate fun, and who doesn’t enjoy more of that. Pirates 2 gets a strong 7.5/10.

Superman Returns made $52.12 million over the weekend bringing its five-day total $84.2 million, much less than everyone expected. When you compare it to Spider-Man 2’s five-day opening take at $152.4 million, it definitely didn’t do what the studio hoped it would. And it looks like next weekend won’t be kind to Superman neither, with the release of Pirates of The Caribbean 2.

… and all I can say is that it could have been better. Waaay better. The actions scenes were cool, but the movie definitely needed a lot more of them. Brandon Routh could have been a better Superman with a better script. The rest of the characters didn’t even act they should have. Both Lois Lane and Perry White, who were once energetic and lively, are now portrayed as weak and soft. Way out of character. It’s as if the writers and director never watched a Superman movie or read a Superman comic. Only Kevin Spacey‘s Lex Luthor was anything near good. And the kid…. eesh.

So basically they dropped the ball with this one. The script was bad, the acting could have been better, and there wasn’t enough action scenes. I think you can call that a disappointing film. Although, I’ll admit, each time Superman would fly, I had a smile on my face. Too bad the rest of the movie wasn’t as good, and simple as that. Superman Returns gets a 5/10.
