Johnny Depp to Retire from Acting at 50?
August 14th, 2006There’s a rumor going around that Johnny Depp, 43, is going to retire from acting soon after he turns 50. Here’s the quote that started the rumor:
“I won’t last in film much after I turn 50. People go on about how well I look for my age, but what happens when it all drops? I could end up as the Cliff Richard of film”
Well, I’m sure you’re thinking the same thing I am; no way. Sounds to me like Depp was only joking around. There’s no way that this generation’s best actor will retire anywhere near 50. Personally, I don’t think Johnny Depp should even think about retirement… not until he gets cast in a Quentin Tarantino movie. What do you think?

I’m not sure honestly. Sometimes he’s great like in what’s eating gilbert grape and pirates (he’s good the movies suck- they are average nothing special in all truth- come on u telling me this shit is better than indiana jones) and edward scissorhands (fine acting i thought the movie was good but the thing sucked when i tried to watch it recently - i guess a movie for the time or for the first few times for me).
Other times he is so so like in sleepy hallow and Nick of Time.
Others he just plain sucks, but not often, like in charlie and the cho. fact.
If he is gonna produce more crap, he should retire and save us all the pain.
for now i say stay john. But play more weird characters but not too weird and u’ll be fine. ed, jack, and take on some more blow and action part action shit too, but he shouldn’t go straight action though.

It’s ludicrous for Johnny Depp to be talking about retirement at 50, especially giving “loss of sex appeal” as the reason. Look at all the Hollywood leading men who have ripened beautifully into mature actors–Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Dustin Hoffman, Marlon Brando (when he was alive), Richard Gere and so many, many others. I can’t imagine an actor who loves his profession throwing in the towel just because he fears he’s losing his looks–please, please, please Johnny, tell me you are not that shallow! If the careers of any of the aforementioned are any indication, your best work yet is still ahead of you. There will still be many fine roles to play, and Hollywood will be a sadder place for having lost such a great talent.
