Transformers Movie Review
June 29th, 2007I caught a screening of the Transformers last night and I’m happy to say it was awesome! Transformer fans are going to love it, non-Transformer fans are going to love it, even your old Aunt Agnes with the cataracts is going to love it.
It’s hands down one of the most entertaining movies I have ever seen. The action and special effects are insane. You haven’t seen anything like this. The story is very simple and it does have its flaws but it’s hard to think about those flaws, or even care, whenever there’s a Transformer on the screen. Especially when said Transformer is the heroic Optimus Prime.
Two big surprises were Shia LaBeouf and Bumblebee. Shia was just fantastic and really, really funny, and it’s practically impossible not to like Bumblebee. There were more laugh out loud moments in this movie than in most of the comedies I’ve seen this year. And yes, Megan Fox is really hot.
My only real complaint is that there wasn’t enough interaction between the Transformers. And I would have liked to have seen a little more of the Decepticons just because they’re such scene stealers. Do yourself a favor and go see this movie. You wont regret it. 9/10

I watched as well last night. It was truly an awesome remake. Kudos to Michael Bay for finally getting a Transformers “reboot” that works. Initially, I had huge reservations about this new incarnation of my favourite childhood toys. But somehow, Bay’s worked his magic, and made an 80s toyline with blocky robots, cool, slick and updated for the 21st century.
Being the fanboy that I am, I was initially horrifed at the changes in the physical appearance of the transformers. The biomechanical look seemed too messy to my eyes. But watching the film, the transformations really work! I kept trying to keep track of all the moving details, figuring out where each part goes.
As far as the storyline, it’s not too deep. I mean, we’re talking about Michael Bay. He excels at blowing stuff up, not metaphysical analyses of human existence. And blow stuff up he did. 🙂 The action was pretty much non-stop from the get go. Shia LeBeouf worked out really well as Spike, and his interact with Bumblebee, his juvenile naivete. It’s not a deep story, just simple, goog vs evil and GREAT FUN.

its been out here in australia for a couple of days, and yesterday i finally got to see it… after the first few minutes i said to myself, wow, this movie might not suck after all, by the middle of the movie there was actually a collective orgasm in the theater! fantastic movie, even my girlfriend loved it

Awesome movie. Everything from the CGI to the script was way byond a typical summer blockbuster. My usual drawback in Alien vs. human movies is that humans get their buts kicked until the 15 final minutes until we have some special solution. But in this movie the humans actually make a difference in the movie in terms of action and fighting off the evil. The script was also well better than average for a summer shoot em up and there were alot of good roles all well performed. I left the movie wanting more and this movie will take in a ton of money so I am sure that we will get it.

one word… perfect!

I scored myself free tickets the the advance screening on the 27th =) in brisbane. Let me say, it was worth it going standing in line for almost an hour and going through the ‘standard’ security checks. The pace was fast enough, effects were great – overall it’s pretty awesome. I agree with you about the interaction between the transformers and the little screen time given to the decepticons. At times, I also felt the movie was trying a bit too hard to be funny – perhaps taking away from the storyline itself. I was happy with the casting – Shia LaBeouf was perfect for the part..as was everyone else for theirs. However, I found Megan Fox too frozen and expressionless to play the female lead – watch out for her ‘model like’ pouts and poses throughout – pretty little thing, just a bit too ‘brunette barbie’ for my liking. Rachael Taylor – I can’t get over her overemphasised and overexaggerated Australian accent – her acting was okay though, slightly better than Megan. Those are my only major issues with Transformers – but as the name suggests, the focus is on the Transformers and it might just be me worrying about the little stuff too much. Go and check it out, but a pre-warning..try not to sit near the kiddy fans – one boy almost wet his pants upon seeing the autobots: “GAAHH IT’S OPTIMUS PRIME!!!!” 😉 8.5/10.

I caught the special showing tonight, let me say…I will definately be going to see it again. Not many movies have captured me from the very begining and forced me to hold on tight through its duration. The fight scenes, destructions, awsome cars OH MY! This movie stands to be the biggest blockbuster of the year hands down. Can’t wait for the DVD release to check out the probably “to be awsome” special features…all I can say is gimme more! It’s the only film that I kept hoping throught the showing wasn’t almost over! Best 2 1/2 hours spent in a while.

Just saw the movie here in minneapolis, mn. I liked it but felt that it was dragged out a bit too long. Didn’t understand why they needed to put the human roles in between the action scenes SO much. Action was great, the robots ( even though not a classic design ) i thought were great. All in all it was a fun movie and worth 6 bucks. 7/10

I must say: TRANSFORMERS ROCKED! The best movie I have ever seen this year…
To those who said it’s overkill and dumb, HA HA HA to all of you. Even if the critics write bad reviews for this movie, no one believes you because we all saw it and IT IS GREAT! perfect 10.

Best movie 2007 for me.
Solid 9.5/10
July 4th, 2007 at 11:27 am
I saw the movie last night. WOW! I was worried that it might be cheesy, but that worry was totally unfounded. This was the first movie that I’ve seen in years that as soon as it was over I immediately said I HAVE to see this movie again. The plot was predictable at times, but what big production movie isn’t nowadays. Megan Fox was HOT, especially when she was checking under the hood. I know, I know; it was gratuitous, but damn! The robots were awesome! I can’t say enough good about this movie! All in all a great movie with a solid cast. Solid 9.5/10
July 4th, 2007 at 2:35 pm
best top 10 movies ever!!! unpresedented action and effects . after seeing this movie many will say “spider-who”
July 4th, 2007 at 3:09 pm
I went to see this movie hoping it was going to be good. but with such disappointments such as “alien vs predator” I was hoping they didn’t butcher my beloved transformers.. I’m happy to say I was really surprised I didn’t even notice the time fly by in the theater. Well worth spending the money to see. All I can say is they better make it a trilogy. I could live with that.

Best Action Film we have EVER seen! Do not miss it!
that is all we need to say! Enjoy
July 4th, 2007 at 10:16 pm
caught this movie on the fourth… al i have to say is this. i grew up with transformers and optimus prime, and i waited 20 years to hear that voice again.let’s just hope when Starscream comes back, a few more autobots can fill out the ranks. as for Megan Fox, who cares, she’s hot and wouldn’t you kill to get her into a car with a line like that?
July 4th, 2007 at 11:09 pm
I just saw this movie, 30 minutes ago! HOT DAMN! this the hottest movie to hit theaters ever! Hands down! effects A+++++! all i can say is go get some! I am sooo happy and cant wait to see it again! woot woot! im still coming down… LOL.
July 5th, 2007 at 5:59 am
More than anything, this movie is like a dream come true for us who grew up inthe 80s. It was almost surreal lining up at the theater to see a REAL, LIVE-ACTION transformers movie. I was at a dinner with Jet Li the night it opened and I couldn’t really care less, as all my friends kept texting how transformers ROCKED. Went straight to the theater and I almost wet my pants after the screening. Every minute or so, the audience would erupt in cheers! Most of them lingered in the carpark for a good hour just to talk about the movie. That’s right.. Spider who? Harry what?
July 5th, 2007 at 9:01 am
Having been obsessed and owning Transformers as a kid, I have to say this movie was disappointing and full of CHEESE. While the graphics were great, at times there was too much going on, too “busy” – I was really hoping to truly make out the transformation.
I was also hoping for a kick ass movie, kind of acting you’d expect from Die Hard. Instead, the acting was the absolute worst, not to mention the cheesy comments and attempt at humor. Since when is there humor and Transformers in the same sentence? I feel the humor took away from the actual Transformers and made a complete mockery and embarrassment to such GREAT machines!
July 5th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
This transformers movie sucked. I loved the transformers as a child, but this movie was a HUGE let down. First, all the decepticons looked alike. Second, the plot was shallow. I hate shallow plots. And third, Megatron looked more like a monster. What is up with that? Megatron is a leader. He is a great mastermind not a crazy metal gorilla.
I just hope the sequel is more in depth.
July 6th, 2007 at 8:19 am
I thought the film was good but not great, mainly due to the fact that half the sub stories were cut short just to extend the fight scenes(who cares in an action film tho right) but the worst part of all was the cheesy line for that fat kid saying this is 100x cooler than Armageddon, just pissed me off Bay linking his movies. Anyway 6.5/10
Still lookin forward to the sequel tho

I Just Caught The Transformers Movie, One Of The Best Summer Blockbuster To Come Out.Bumblebee Is The True Autobot Hero and A Star. Optimus Prime Looks Very Cool With The New Pant Job.Megan Fox Hot And Very Cool Chick. Shai Total Nerd Hero. Just Go See It Now!
July 8th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
I just saw Transformers and it is the first movie since “300” that I would rate 10+.
A must see. The CGI is the best ever.
Since there can’t really be a sequel to “300,” I’m really glad to be able to look forward to the sequel of Transformers.
A non-stop adreline rush. YEAH!
July 8th, 2007 at 11:38 pm
Don’t waste your 8 bucks. This movie wasn’t about transformers at all, it was about giant robots attacking earth and how humans deal with the situation. All they did was steal memories from childhood so they could market it properly to us. If you must see this movie, sneak in. better yet, just go watch the cartoon movie again, that one was actually about the transformers.
July 9th, 2007 at 1:52 am
Excellent movie from start to finish. Funny, sad at times, action unbelieveable. The graphics were beyond what I imagined. Not a dull part, non-stop from beginning to end. When we all left couldn’t believe how much time passed. Great laughs! Best movie for 07 by a long shot. I see this being the hottest toy out for kids once again. I am 34 by the way and enjoyed the movie as much as my 12 year old step son. A+
July 9th, 2007 at 11:40 am
This was the worst movie I have ever paid money to see. I only went because my husband was a Transformers fan as a kid, and even he apologized to me for making me sit through 2 hours of ridiculous hell.
I don’t know how anyone in their right mind could possibly like this movie. The multiple subplots were so choppy that it hardly made sense. The dialogue was ridiculous, and the attempts at humor were lukewarm, at best.
I’m want to call Michael Bay to demand my money back, and slap Steven Spielberg for producing this. What were they thinking?
July 9th, 2007 at 2:57 pm
I thought this movie rocked.
July 9th, 2007 at 3:19 pm
comments by tek and a few others mirror my thoughts. This was not a movie about the transformers, but about humans with some transforms thrown in for eye candy. Too many human characters, not enough transformers and barely any interaction between the transformers. I believe that the autobot characters, not including OP, has 2 lines each? I don’t even remember the decepticons even getting that much. I only remember two human characters from the original transformers, Spike and his dad (that’s how crucial to the story he was, I can’t even remember his name). I do have to say the CGI was cool, but it sure didn’t make up for that piece of crap story. Where the %#@$ did this allspark thing come from? I don’t remember it from my childhood. The original transformers story could have been kept. I’m glad I didn’t pay much for my ticket and may actually sit out of seeing any more. If Bay has anything to do with future installments, he won’t get my money.
July 9th, 2007 at 11:52 pm
this could be the best movie of 2007, i can’t get why someone wouldn’t be entertain by the, TRANSFORMERS,, I think that everyone and everything was GREAT, when usually the special effects looked fake, and the TRANSFORMER, looked real as can be. the negative views are misdirected @ such a GREAT movie. go see this movie, money will not be wasted! i have seen it twice, would like to see it again.
July 10th, 2007 at 11:02 am
c’mon guys get a life…………just enjoy the film for what it is……..the movie ROCKS…….it was fun and very thrilling…..plot is simple but who cares, it’s a movie for the kids in the 80’s who loved to see their toys come to life on the big screen.
can’t wait for the sequel…..
July 10th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
Unfortunately as a fan of the 80’s transformers this movie did not do transformers justice. Why? Plain and simple the movie was about aliens digitally copying car images. Why the transformation if you can digitally copy a disguise. I understand the change of story but you got to at least keep something from the original transformers. Secondly To me every one seems to like the movie for the CG and neglecting the fact that the personalities of autobots and decepticons are reversed. Autobots were scared of the decepticons and weak in the movie. Most of all megatron 34 feet and prime 28 ft and prime tossed around like a ragdoll and prime couldn’t kill megatron but the boy kills megatron. It would be more realistic as michael bay would put it if prime put the cube in megatrons chest rather than the boy. To many flaws. If michael bay was to have said from the begining this movie has nothing to do with the transformers as we all grew up watching. It’s a totally different story. I think lots of fans wouldn’t be so disapointed. But because he stated that he’d be working with hardcore fans to produce a great movie for transformers fans that fans can relate to that just made all fans set their expectations high. So in the end it was a big let down. Great alien robot movie but not Transformers.

That movie rocked i will go see it again..very action packed and my wife liked the cute love story plot stuck in there.i will give this movie a 10+++
July 11th, 2007 at 4:52 am
For those of you who havent seen it yet, what are you waiting for?? The best movie that has been out in years…. No movie is going to be like you remember from your youth, why cry about it?? Just enjoy it while you can.
July 11th, 2007 at 3:14 pm
I’d give this movie ten thumbs up if I had that many!!!! Everything I hoped for in a real life action remake of the iconic robots who inspired me as a kid!!! Michael Bay has done all of us fans justice, by using the original voice of Prime, and replicating the transforming sound very well. I liked the changes to sound wave and bumblebee too (good improvising). The transforming Mountain Dew pop machine was hilarious!!! Ultimately, this is probably my favorite film of all time(not just because I’m a Transformers nut), and so much of what I always hoped to see in the movie we all knew was coming. Autobots, move out…. 😀
July 12th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
Who could not like this movie? As a couple other people said, it is what it is. This movie isn’t meant to be a complex character study. It’s a big budget, summer blockbuster;nothing more, nothing less. And who in their right mind would go to a movie based on a cartoon and expect to see a nominee for best actor/actress anyway? The CGI was the best I’ve EVER seen.In movies like “Hulk” and “Spider Man”, certain parts look overly animated. Not the case in “Transformers”. The visuals were amazing and the action is start to finish. So if you want “art”, go to Cannes or Sundance. If you wanna see a damn good, fun movie, go see “Transformers”.
July 12th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
i’m a FEMALE in my 30’s and LOVED the movie. ABSOLUTELY had no desire… I’m so glad my husband dragged me into watching one of the best movies i’ve seen in years. it put me in such a great mood. i can’t wait to own it on dvd.
July 13th, 2007 at 11:33 am
Only one thing to say really: Bumblebee was a VW Beetle. His niche was blending in and gathering intel, not flashing around as a concept camero. One big Mtv toy video for the new Mtv generation. nostalgics beware, this movie does not do justice to the toys and comics we grew up with.
July 13th, 2007 at 6:54 pm
Transformers geekdom occupied much of my childhood. It was severe enough to warrant my memorization of just about every line of the 1986 animated movie. Yes, I was another merchandising statistic, and I have lived in a basement for some time. My qualifications aside, I went to this movie with mild expectations and left in a intensely euphoric state. Michael Bay has indisputably created one of the biggest blockbusters of the century which will please fans and non-fans alike. Those who outright detest this movie clearly think quite highly of themselves.
July 15th, 2007 at 3:57 am
I’m a 53 year old woman who dragged my husband to see this movie (my boys played with Transformers & I always loved those toys). I loved it! I don’t like seeing most movies over & over but I can’t wait to see this again. I expected an action movie & I got a little more. I haven’t felt on the edge of my seat like this in a long time. Kind of wished I could have seen it with my (grown) sons.
July 22nd, 2007 at 12:28 am
This movie was a trainwreck. Anyone who liked it probably got hypnotized by the CGI and a 10 minute robot fight at the end. The plot is full of holes, the autobots dont show up till an hour into the movie, and then disappear for huge chunks of time during the movie. We barely even see them at all. The acting, except for Shia Lebouf is aweful. Too many things are left unended. The movie was about humans and NOT Transformers, which would be fine, if it wasn’t called TRANSFORMERS. I could nitpick this thing to death but I expected more that cool looking Transformers and action scenes where its impossible to tell what the hell is going on. They spend the first hour of the film talking about the sound they recovered from the attack in Qatar and a building full of techies trying to decifer it, then it has absolutely nothing to do with the plot? Why bother? The list could go on……….
July 23rd, 2007 at 6:09 pm
If you want to see a seious movie with a well thought out plot rent or buy the shawshank redemption. If you want to see a movie with giant robots kicking the living hell out of each other and setting THE benchmark for future CGI in the process. Go and see Transformers.
It’s blooming fantastic. 10/10
July 24th, 2007 at 4:15 am
