Hold onto your Generation 1 still-in-the-box Megatron toy my fellow fanboys! According to Variety, Transformers 3 has been official announced and is set to hit theatres on July 1, 2011. Here’s the skinny:

Paramount and DreamWorks are forging ahead with “Transformers 3,” dating the movie for release on July 1, 2011.

No deals have been inked with director Michael Bay or franchise stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. Nor has a writer been hired for the third installment.

Don’t worry folks; you can pretty much bet your piggybank that the “holy trinity” will be back for the third instalment. Now to celebrate the most awesome news, we present to you the most awesome Transformers related video you will ever see… hand puppet Optimus Prime. Enjoy.
