At first I thought it was the Robitussin/Dimetapp cocktail talking, but no, this is indeed reality. The New Kids on The Block showed up on the Today Show to announce that they have reunited. They’re going release a new album and go on tour. One poor soul actually says that this is “better than Christmas”. Shoot me now. Please.

Well, I wasn’t expecting to ever read this bit of news. Scarlett Johansson is set to release a cover album of Tom Waits songs on May 6th. Yes, I typed that, and you read it correctly. Here’s the Skinny:

Scarlett Johansson will release an album on May 6 called “Anywhere I Lay My Head,” andPOP.com has learned.

The actress-turned-singer revealed in 2006 that she would be recording a Tom Waits cover album. Her album’s title, “Anywhere I Lay My Head,” is the title of a Waits track from his classic 1985 album “Rain Dogs.” (Source)

Personally, I think Scarlett should just stick to looking really hot, since she does that so well, and not go anywhere near a microphone. If you’re curious to know if she’s a good singer, just check out this video for a taste of her amazing singing “talent”.

I know the cool thing for me to do would be to rag on Fergie, but I just can’t do it. Not today. Fergie looked… wait for it… hot at last night’s American Music Awards. I don’t know what it is about Fergie this time, but I can’t help gawking at her. Ok, fine, I’ll admit it; showing up in that ultra-short dress helped. A lot.

U2 and music fans rejoice. We’re giving away 5 copies of the brand new U2 By U2 paperback from Harper Collins this week, one book per day. Having read the entire book this past weekend, I can honestly say that if there’s one book on U2 you should check out, it’s this one. Hundreds of never before seen photos, and packed with some shockingly candid stories, this book was a blast to go through.

The most interesting part of the book is the fact that all four members give their take on a subject, and highlights include the early struggles the band went through and what really went on behind the scenes during the mischievous Zoo TV period. A great book for U2 fans and for anyone who wants to know the story of U2 by the band members themselves.

The 2007 MTV Video Awards were held last night and I think it’s safe to say that they were the worst in history. What an absolute mess of a show. I knew we were in for it when the show kicked off with a ridiculous and career-killing performance by Britney Spears. Here’s the trailer for Shine A Light, the Rolling Stone documentary filmed by Martin Scorsese. Ya, I’m into the Stones. I’m not one of those college music snobs who only listens to the latest “it” band and considers any musician over the age of 30 as uncool. If you’re a real fan of music then you should know that it doesn’t get much better than a Keith Richards guitar riff. Anyways, the flick is an interesting look at how both the Stones and Scorsese work.

Here are some pictures of Rihanna rocking the Dome a few nights ago, and I think it’s a safe bet to say that there wasn’t a fan at the show (female or male, thanks to that outfit) that didn’t leave happy. Now if only Hilary Duff could borrow Rihanna’s outfit, I would be just a little more happy about the current state of music.
